Hi Mark,
Use the disk layout section in the installation Guide. You initial data file
sizes are good but you would be better off using a SAN for the Data files.
Your BW sizes should be the same as the ERP for starters.

Hello , I searched on sdn and everywhere and was not able to get any
information regarding the best practice for planning and designing disk
layout for the different SAP servers expect the sizing guides and
installation guides . How we arrive at a good partitions for disk layout
does the prior experience play a major role ? How we get to know what will
be the size of DATA files and Log files ( also planning ahead of 5 years
with 20 % growth ) .
For example i need to make a plan for disk layout for the following servers
( windows 2008 +oracle for 35 concurrent users) . Here is my initial thought
plan for disk layout for each PRD/QAS/DEV servers
ERP PRD : 500 GB ( raid 5, data files) , 50 GB each for archive , redo and
mirror logs( raid 1 )
ERP QAS: 500 GB ( raid 5, data files) , 50 GB each for archive , redo and
mirror logs( raid 1 )
ERP DEV: 400 GB ( raid 5, data files) , 50 GB each for archive , redo and
mirror logs( raid 1 )
EP PRD: 80 GB ( raid 5 , application + database files) , what should be the
space of DB files for raid 1?
EP QAS: 50 GB ( raid 5 , application + database files)
EP DEV: 50 GB ( raid 5 , application + database files)
BW PRD: No Idea , please suggest
BW QAS:
BW DEV:
XI PRD: 80 GB ( raid 5 ) , should i put sap database files on raid 1 , which
will be of 30 GB ?
XI QAS 50 GB ( raid 5 ) , should i put sap database files on raid 1 , which
will be of 30 GB ?
XI DEV: 50 GB ( raid 5) , should i put sap database files on raid 1 , which
will be of 30 GB ?
MAM PRD: No Idea , please suggest
MAM QAS:
MAM DEV:
SOLMAN PRD: 150 GB ( Raid 5 , Application + database files) , does i need
any RAID 1 disk for them.?
SOLMAN DEV: 80 GB ( Raid 5 , Application + database files)
what are your thoughts this disk/partition layout , please tell in case if
it is not correct .
