Hi,
Our company policy is to charge the cost of the repait to a cost element and the components to inventory. The way we accomplished that was creating a PO with a service line item for the cost of the repair and a second line item, free of charge, with item category L subcontracting. This is allowing us to expense the repair cost and to return the repaired item to inventory with the initial value of the broken part plus all the components.
