Hi Suzanne,

I don't know about best practice, but ...
We used to set the payroll control records to January 1st of the year
prior to our current year. So, for 2010 it would be set to January 1,
2009.
We discovered that we had an incredible amount of retroactivity
effective before those dates. The biggest problem being that when we
opened the retro date so we could handle the activity - someone would
inevitably go in and change something else prior to the retro date.
So, we now have the earliest retro date set to our go-live date -
January 1st 2001. We use the IT003 dates for individual control.

Hope that helps.
John

Does anyone know the best practice for how far back to set payroll
control records? If you had a rolling date that was moved up everytime
pay ran, but you didn't update IT0003, would that create any issues? Any
advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
