Hi Kevin,
There are a number of sources to check the Kernel Version:
1. Tx SM51
2. System -> Status - Other Kernel info (Shift+F5)
3. Display the contents of a developer Trace file dev_w#
You can download the latest Available Kernel patches from:
http://service.sap.com/swdc and navigate to the required Kernel. You need to download both the Database indepentant and Database Dependant parts i.e.
SAPEXE_*.SAR
SAPEXEDB_*.SAR
You then use program 'sapcar -xvf <File Name> to decompress the file in a temporary folder/directory.
