Reply from CWK on May 2 at 9:32 AM Sukta - Has anyone already set up classification master data to control batch data collection? This is a big deal if it's never been done before. If classification is already set up and you're just trying to look up detail data, that's one thing. If you're really trying to create a new batch characteristic then an analyst or business partner should be involved. You create characteristics using CT04. There are a lot of different ways to manage characteristics to capture data in a variety of ways - your business partner should know what is required. You must create a Class (if one doesn't already exist) to which you assign your characteristics using CL02. Your class must use a class type appropriate for batches. Depending on how your company has set up batch management, you use either Class 022 or 023 (just look in the drop-down - you should have only one choice). Generally, a batch class is assigned to a material. A material can have only ONE batch class assigned to it so you'd better be certain you know what all of your data collection requirements are for all the different kinds of materials you have before you define the classes and characteristics you want. SAP uses internal numbers to control classes and characteristics, so you may want to familiarize yourself with the KLAH (Class) table and CABN (Characteristic) table so you can see the internal number in use for a given class or characteristic. Good luck, Carl
