Reply from hermesfelipe on Nov 16 at 6:24 AM I work for a consultancy company, therefore have contact with several different SAP installations for different companies, and HANA is a noticeable trend (IMO, to use the newly learned acronym - I'm brazilian). Another movement that I've seen in some companies (although wouldn't say it's a trend just yet) is the desire to have less custom code. At least one of my past clients (a huge one) is re-implementing their HCM worldwide based on the guideline "keep it standard". If standard doesn't fit the process, change the process. It is a bit radical, but in the long term I believe it pays off. Another client is not so radical, but for new developments do not allow custom development unless it's been proven that SAP does not provide a similar functionality out of the box. And, there is OO. Old programmers don't like it much, but it is way better than function module for reusability (if used properly). The problem is that in most cases where I've seen companies push towards OO programming, the ABAPers just start using classes instead of function modules - but without a proper training and understanding of the OO concepts, this cannot even be called OO programing - more like structured programming using classes, which is a waste of time. kr, Hermes.
| | | ---------------Original Message--------------- From: Horacio Zapettini Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2012 4:21 PM Subject: Trends in SAP Development There is a difference between a company that does not sell software (where abapers and functional analysts are employees) and software factories that sell software. In the second case, reusability, staying on the top of the wave is natural. In our case, the strategy is a bit different: make it work as soon as possible so the software fits the business changes (and business changes occurs really fast). In our case, maintenance is cheap (because we haven't changed the abapers team) and we need a small. Have to go home :) but it's an interesting topic and it'd be great if more peers get involved on it. Horacio | | Reply to this email to post your response. __.____._ | _.____.__ |
