Nowadays, Windows is very stable. We will use Windows 2003 and it works well. We plan a weekly reboot to apply Microsoft patches. People are afraid of Windows, this is not true anymore. It is easier to manage, you don't have tons of permissions of problems on Windows. For a 320GB database, Windows is probably a better option. Your hardware will cost you less, your software will cost you less. So, if I would be you, I would go for Windows 2003 or 2008 (but not Win2008 R2 yet). Contact HP, they also well Windows capable servers. Insist on AMD64 (or x86_64) processors. Avoid Itanium... HP is the only company who chose to go for Itanium. Good luck. ---------------Original Message--------------- From: stefano ferrero Sent: Wednesday, October 06, 2010 10:35 AM Subject: Platform for Ecc 6 (Hp-Ux vs RedHat and VMware) > Hi Gurus, > at the moment we have Sap/R3 4.7 and Oracle 9.2.0.3 Cluster on Hp-Ux 11i and Hp-ServiceGuard. > We are planning to upgrade to ECC 6 during 2011. > Hp proposed a technological solution based on its Itanium Processors and Hp-Uxv3 Operating System. > Discordant, some consultant proposed us to migrate all on RedHat and virtualize all on VMware. > The only constant is the Db Oracle. > What is your experience with it ? > Thanks You > Stefano | __.____._ Copyright © 2010 Toolbox.com and message author.
