I haven't...however, in most cases in SAP, you can't delete records with transactional data unless you first archive the transactional data.? Based on the error message you are receiving, I would say that is also the case with secondary cost elements.
?
Logically, if you were able to delete the secondary cost element, when you attempted to drill down on an older document where the secondary cost element was used, you would receive an error.? Therefore, it makes sense to me that? You can't delete the secondary cost element once data has been posted regardless of when the data was posted.

Has anyone actually deleted a secondary cost element from a point in time forward, without archiving data first? I'm looking for the definitive answer on standard SAP functionality at this time, not possible enhancements.

Scenario - secondary cost elements were used in the past to post actual and planned values. We have ~65 secondary CEs we no longer use. The business owner would like to block these for use, similar to blocking a GL account for posting/planning.

BUT, there are no blocking indicators on cost elements as there are on GL accounts.

I've read posts to this and other lists that state deleting a secondary CE for future periods (periods in which the secondary CE was not used in a business transaction) is possible. But when I execute the transactions (KA04 and KA24) I receive the error message deletion not possible due to dependent records in COSS. I searched COSS for those dependent records in the periods I wish to delete and there aren't any.

So, back to my original question. Has anyone actually deleted a secondary cost element from a point in time forward, without archiving data first?

Thanks,

BC
