You CAN delete document types, as I already said. Whether it
is advisable to do so is debatable. I have always taken the
attitude that I will not delete the standard SAP-supplied
doc types but I will delete any that have been created but
are not (yet) used, or are redundant.

I will give an example. Some years ago I was working on a
roll-out and arrived at an Italian subsidiary to find that
local (junior) consultants already on site had created many
new document types (in DEV) to solve apparent problems when
these problems could be approached by other means. I
configured these other means and then deleted all the
redundant document types because the drop-down list becomes
unwieldy if you don't. Put it another way, if you have 50
companies in a group and each wants 10 new document types -
you get the picture? The same applies to things like payment
terms, so I am always very tough on whether or not to allow
such things. The business has to make a good case and the
problem has to be incapable of solution by other means.
Having said that, there are very good reasons for creating
some new document types such as those used for opening and
closing entries in Italy or Turkey, or for US-GAAP only
entries in some countries - it makes them easier to include
or exclude in reports, for example.
